Abstract

Patients of chronic colitis were treated with Yavasadi Piccha Basti given as per Kala Basti schedule wherein Bala Taila was used for Anuvasana Basti. It provided significant relief in sign and symptoms and complete remission to 30.0% patients, marked improvement to 40.0%, moderate improvement to 20.0% and mild improvement to 10.0% patients. Radiology evidences also showed that the Piccha Basti provided marked improvement in the adverse findings of barium enema X-Ray of the colon.

To ascertain whether same drugs administered orally have a similar effect, a group of chronic colitis was also simultaneously treated with Yavasadi Kvatha with Mocharasa administered orally for 25 days. It provided significant relief in sign and symptoms and complete remission to 12.5%, moderate improvement to 37.5% and mild improvement to 25% but 12.5% patients remained unchanged. The comparison of the results showed that Yavasadi Piccha Basti provided better relief to the patients of chronic colitis in comparison to the oral therapy of the same drugs viz. Yavasadi Kvatha with Mocharasadi Kalka.
