Abstract

Behera (2015) in the clinical study showed the beneficial effects of ShvÄsakuthÄra rasa in the treatment of Tamaka ShvÄsa (bronchial asthma), but as it contains some arsenic therefore some physicians hesitate to prescribe it. Therefore an herbal preparation comprising of such drugs which are reported to have beneficial effect on the patients of ShvÄa or on the basis of personal experiences as well as textual references was formulated and its role in the management of asthma was evaluated in the present study. The results showed that ShvÄsahara Avaleha administered in 10 gm twice a day dose for 45 days significantly reduces the frequency, duration and intensity of the attack. It also provided significant relief in signs and symptoms and increased the PEFR. No adverse effect of the drug was noticed during the study.
