An Open Label Single Arm Clinical Study on Ayaskriti in Madhumeha (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus)

Abstract


Background: Madhumeha (Type 2 DM) is one among the Ashtamahagadas caused by the involvement of three doshas and ten Dushya. As Madhumeha is a chronic condition, a good control and effective management should be the ultimate aim to reduce the risk of the development of further complications. Ayaskriti (Arishta kalpana-fermented formulation) having Katu-Tikta-Kashaya rasa, Laghu, Ruksha, Teekshnaguna has Deepana-Pachana and Kapha-Kleda-Medoupashoshana property which is essential in the management of Madhumeha (Type 2 DM). So, this study was taken up to evaluate the effectiveness of Ayaskriti in the management of Madhumeha (Type 2 DM).

Methods: Among the 29 registered patients, 22 patients completed the study. Patients were administered Ayaskriti 25ml twice daily (1pala) after food for a period of 30 days. Statistical analysis was done using Cochran Q, Mc Nemar, Wilcoxon signed rank test and Repeated measure ANOVA.

Result: There was statistically significant improvement in subjective and objective parameters (fasting blood glucose and post prandial blood glucose before and after treatment) of Madhumeha (P <.05).

Conclusion:Ayaskriti is effective in the management of Madhumeha (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus). No ADR was repeated during the study.
