Efficacy of Abhyanga on the Affected Muscles in Cervical Spondylosis (Griva Hundanam) Patients

The clinical study was done in two parts, first the affected muscles were elicited in 29 patients of cervical spondylosis (Griva Hundanam), the results of which showed that in all most all the patients Trapezius muscle was involved followed by extensor muscles of head (Semispinalis capitis and longissimus capitis) and sternocleidomustoid, splenius capitis, rhomboidus and deltoid muscles.

The massage was done on only affected muscles which provided significant relief in stiffness (71.42%) and pain (60%) of the neck muscles and provided significant improvement in restricted neck extension and flexion as well as the muscle power. After the massage therapy 71.4% patients got marked improvement, 14.3% patients got improvement, whereas 14.3% patients remained unchanged
